Belthangady: 8 year old drowns in Annaru river

Belthangady: An 8-year-old boy drowned in Annaru river in Chibidre village in Kakkinje on Sunday, January 10.

Reports state that the boy had come along with his parents to visit his ailing grandmother.

The child has been identified as Ihaan Abdullah (8), grandson of Putaka hailing from Daddu in Tottadi village. Ihaan’s parents, Abida and Farooq Abdullah are residents of Chikkamagaluru.

As Ihaan’s grandmother was ill, he along with his parents visited Kakkunje on Sunday, where this incident took place.

After finishing breakfast on Sunday, the family went to the nearby river to wash clothes and take bath. Ihaan was playing by the river when he lost balance and fell into the river.

Daddu Sufi, Ihaan’s uncle along with others rescued him from the river and rushed him to a private hospital in Kakkinje. However, Ihaan died en route a Belthangady hospital for further treatment.

The post-mortem examination of the body was conducted at the mortuary in Belthangady Community hospital.

A case has been lodged at the Dharmastala police station.
