Ullal: A local NGO Vriksha ran an awareness campaign against people who throw garbage on the roads on Tuesday, January 19.
Around 100 activists lined up across the Netravati Bridge, holding mobile torches to ensure no one threw trash into the river or on the bridge.
The NGO has been effectively conducting awareness programmes against environmental pollution.
Recently in an incident at Bengre, it was found that a lot of waste accumulated there was actually the waste dumped at Netravathi bridge.
Bengre beach used to be filled with heaps of waste. The NGO stepped to run an awareness campaign and today was the second day of the campaign.
Janshikshana Trust director Sheena Shetty, Big Bang member Mahmoud Fauzan Sheikh, Hasiru Dala member Nagaraj Raghav Anchan, APD Foundation’s Vanishree BR and City Corporation member Veena were present.
Ullal town council commissioner Rayappa made seating arrangements such as chairs for the NGO members.
Even his ward is suffering from the waste menace from Netravati bridge, but as the bridge falls under the jurisdiction of the City Corporation, he could not take any actions and hence he joined hands with the NGO.
