Bengaluru: The department of public instruction has submitted a report to the government proposing a reduction of 25% to 30% in school fees for the current academic year.
It is gathered that a meeting had been convened by Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar to discuss the matter with department officials and a final order on the same is expected to be issued in a day or two.
As several parents have already paid full fees for this academic year, the proposal recommends that schools adjust the same while collecting next year’s fees following the government order.
This cut won’t apply to schools that have reduced the fees up to 30%, this year itself considering the financial crisis faced by parents due to Covid19 imposed lockdown.
The commissioner for public instruction recently held a meeting with representatives from parents’ associations and private school managements. The parents made a request to the department in the meeting to reduce fees in a slab-wise manner based on the number of students enrolled.
