Shivamogga blast: CM conducts spot inspection, says action will be taken against guilty

Bengaluru: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Saturday, January 23 visited the quarry explosion site at Hunasodu village of Shimoga and conducted a spot inspection.
Addressing presspersons after conducting inspection along with the concerned officials Yediyurappa said that the reason for the blast, who permitted the transportation of explosive substance in a lorry and what led to the incident will be investigated comprehensively, and necessary action will be taken against those responsible.
“Illegal quarrying or mining will not be permitted in the state and necessary action will be taken against such activities. I will take necessary action to stop illegal quarrying or mining,” Yediyurappa said.
He further added, “Our government will not allow illegal quarrying or mining for any reason. Those who want to do quarrying or mining should get a license for it. Doing it illegally will lead to such incidents. I will direct Deputy Commissioners to take strict measures in this direction.”
Meanwhile, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that six deaths have been confirmed so far in the blast incident at a crusher site.
“Various deceased have been identified. As of now, all the debris has been cleared and further probe is on,” Bommai told reporters.
The blast occurred around 10.20 pm on Thursday night.
Karnataka Police has arrested the quarry owner and the dynamite supplier in connection with the blast.
Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased.
