Udupi: District Superintendent of Police N Vishnuvardhan on Saturday flagged off 12 Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) vehicles at Syndicate Circle, Manipal.
“If the public needs help during an emergency or an act of crime such as accident, murder, robbery, theft, extortion, burglary, harassment and emergency assistance to women, children and senior citizens, they can call now 112 instead of 100,” the SP appealed.
“Calls to 112 helpline number will be responded to from any part of the district under the Emergency Response Support System System (ERSS). The vehicles under the system will be operating 24 hours a day,” he added.
The ERSS vehicles will be stationed at different parts of the district. Calls to the 112 helpline will go to its Bengaluru centre. Based on the location of the call, the nearest ERSS vehicle will be informed by the centre to respond to the emergency situation.
An ASI rank police officer will be in each of the ERSS vehicles.
