Bengaluru: Karnataka Legislative Council chairman Prathap Chandra Shetty would likely resign from his position as the chairman of the council to avoid any confrontation on the no-confidence motion against him.
The motion has passed the mandatory 14-day period required before taking it up for discussion in the house.
It was reported that Shetty, a Congress member of the Council, has mentioned about the resignation to those close to him as he wants to avoid the embarrassment of the no-trust vote.
Shetty came up with the decision after seeing BJP and JD(S) come together to elect the new deputy chairman recently and concluded that the unofficial alliance of the two parties could vote against him.
The Council presently has 31 BJP members, 29 Congress members and 13 JD(S) members.
