Surikumeru: A gas tanker toppled on a road near Mani at Surikumaru near Vitla on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru national highway causing authorities to stop vehicle traffic on the road and nearby residents have been ordered not to light fire/gas stoves.

The incident is said to have occurred at midnight on February 1.

The tanker, hauling gas from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, toppled after its driver lost control of the vehicle. As a precautionary measure, all vehicular movement on the highway has been suspended. A technical team arrived at the spot and ensured that the gas does not leak.

Vehicles coming from Mangaluru have been diverted via Kalladka and Vitla Road while those coming from Bengaluru and Uppinangadi have been diverted to the Mani, Budoli and Kabaka.

Members of the Budoli Youth Federation, Surikumeru Badriya Young Mens’ Association and the general public are controlling the diverted traffic.

Vitla police officials and firefighters are in the area conducting safety operations.
