Why not 100% occupancy in theaters?: Sandalwood joins Udayavani’s campaign
Team Udayavani, Feb 3, 2021, 4:01 PM IST
Manipal/Bengaluru: A day after the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) allowed theatres to operate at 100 percent capacity from February 1, the state government informed that it has decided to continue with 50 percent occupancy in cinema halls till February 28.
The government argued that though the Union government has allowed the reopening of theatres in full capacity, the state government cannot follow the same guideline after ‘reviewing the current scenario of COVID19.
However, the state government has allowed hotels and restaurants to operate at full seating and allowed swimming pools to operate as per central government guidelines and this decision by the government has brought resentment among the Sandalwood industry.
Team Udayavani started a campaign questioning that when private functions, places of worship, public transport, markets, tourist places are allowed to operate normally, why not theaters?
Many actors and directors have raised echoed the question asked by our team and raised their voices against the state government.
Take a look at the tweets shares by the sandalwood celebrities:

While every other public area continues to bustle with people, Karnataka has once again limited the theatre occupancy to 50%. Why? Are we forgetting that cinema is a means of livelihood for many across the state!#KFIDemandsFullOccupancy @drashwathcn @CMofKarnataka @mla_sudhakar
