Newly migrated Canara Bank a/c holders wrongfully charged service charges

Udupi: Account holders of the former Syndicate Bank were charged Rs 378 as service charges by Canara Bank on Tuesday, February 2 shocking many of them.
Syndicate Bank was merged with Canara Bank recently.
On Tuesday, account holders from the erstwhile Syndicate Bank received SMSes of Rs 236 and Rs 142 being deducted from their savings account as service charges.
Many stunned account holders called Canara Bank to enquire about, however, the Bank too could not explain the unknown deductions.
A few account holders who do not possess a debit card too were charged for it.
Later Rudresh, Lead Bank Manager at Canara Bank informed in a statement that the Rs 236 was deducted as the annual maintenance charges for the bank’s debit card and the Rs 142 was wrongfully charged due to a technical error which will be refunded within a day.
