Bengaluru: IPS officer Superintendant of Police Vertika Katiyar has filed a complaint at Cubbon Park Station police here against her Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer husband Nitin Subhash Yello and his family alleging dowry harassment.

Along with dowry harassment, Katiyar has alleged assault, threat to life and fraud charges against seven members of Nitin’s family in her FIR.

Nitish, a 2009 batch IFS officer, and Vertika were married in 2011.

Nitish has served in Indian embassies in various countries, including Colombo. Vertika has been an SP in various districts of the State since 2010 and currently works at the KSRP Research & Training Centre.

In her complaint, Katiyar narrates that Nitish and his family had bought the jewellery for their marriage and later threatened annulment of the marriage if she does not pay for them.

“In 2012, Nitish took a cheque of Rs 5 lakhs from my grandmother. He used to smoke and consume liquor heavily and when I requested him to quit them he quarrelled with me. Before leaving for Colombo in 2016, he fought with me and broke my hand. During Deepavali in 2018, Nitish’s family threatened divorce for not sending gifts to them. They also assaulted me for Rs 35 lakhs to buy a new house,” Katiyar further alleges in her complaint.
