Husband arrested 17 years after murdering his wife

Lakshmeshwara: A fugitive man who killed his wife and chopped her to pieces 17 years ago was finally arrested by police.
On December 16, 2004, Veeraiah Hiremath killed his wife Eeramma with an axe in Ankali village in Shirahatti taluk of Gadag district.
Hiremath committed the crime as he suspected Eeramma’s character.
Her corpse was discovered by the villagers after nine days and was identified as Eeramma’s by the clothes on the dead body.
A case was registered at the Lakshmeshwara police station then.
After 17 years, a team led by SP N Yatish of Lakshmeshwara police station were successful in catching Hiremath.
He was remanded to judicial custody on February 6 in Mangaluru.
