Class 10 boy makes electric-powered bike using old parts in Rs 25K

Chikodi: A young man from the border town of Nipani, Belagavi district used his lockdown time to make an electric bike.
Prathamesh, son of Vasanthi and Prakash Sutar, is a class 10 student.
With the help of family members, spare parts of old bikes, a lead-acid 48 voltage battery, a 48 voltage motor, a 750-watt motor, a motor and battery controller he built the bike all at a cost of Rs 25,000.
Prathamesh’s electric bike can cover up to 35 kilometres on a full charge which takes 4 hours. The bike has a speed of 40 kilometres per hour and also has reverse riding.
“While attending Modern English School in Nipani, I experimented with electric-powered bikes when there was an exhibition at the school. During the lockdown, I built and driven an electric-powered bike using spare parts from old bikes. In addition to serving the country I am interested in studying mechanical engineering,” said Prathamesh.
“Very happy to see my son at an early age, has built an electric-powered bike using discontinued spare parts of bikes,” said Prathamesh’s mother Vasanthi Sutar.
