Sagar: An engineering student, along with his classmates, has built a two-wheeler powered by acetylene gas.
HS Gautam, a resident of Sagar taluk, studying engineering at Mangaluru Institute of Technology used invented a two-wheeler that runs on acetylene gas produced from a chemical reaction in a water vaporizer caused by calcium carbide.
He submitted his invention at a national competition which after being selected in the first and second round, is now in the finale stage.
Using Gautam’s technology, more mileage can be obtained than petrol. As per claims, while the maximum mileage from a petrol-run two-wheeler is around 59 kilometres per hour, using acetylene gas up to 66 kilometres per hour can be achieved.
Gautam installed a separate tank on his father’s two-wheeler and tested it with acetylene gas as fuel, the results were promising.
