New Delhi: After reports of new strains of coronavirus in Maharashtra emerged, AIIMS chief Dr. Randeep Guleria said that the new Indian strains could be highly transmissible and dangerous.
He further said that they can even cause re-infections in people who have developed antibodies. Also, he added that herd immunity is a myth because at least 80% of the population needs to have developed antibodies.
Guleria stressed that after the vaccine people might not be able to avoid getting the disease, but they will have a mild version of it. However, he underscored that getting the vaccine is a must.
Maharashtra, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Chattisgarh are seeing a spike in Covid-19 cases
