10-year-old tigress caught, avails treatment in rescue centre

Gundlupete: A 10-year-old tigress that had attacked two farmers, on Saturday, has been successfully rescued and shifted to rescue centre.

According to the reports, a tigress had entered farming land in Lakkipura village of Bandipur Tiger Reserve and National Park jurisdiction, on Saturday and had attacked two farmers namely Gaviyappa and Rajshekhar hailing from Gopalpur village. It had also harmed a cow. Later, without knowing to escape, the tigress hid itself in farmer Shivabasappa’s farmland, reportedly.

On Sunday morning, the forest officials rushed to the spot as per the information provided by the villagers. After a three-hour-long strenuous efforts, with the help of tranquilizer and two elephants Abhimanyu and Srikanta, the tigress was finally trapped and caged.

As per the sources, the officials had found minor wounds on left limb, due to which the tigress was not able to escape after the attack.

Currently, the tigress has been shifted to a rescue centre located at Koorgally of Mysuru district.
