Munger (Bihar):  A local court in Bihar’s Munger district today awarded 10 years imprisonment to three persons who were apprehended last year with over 20 litres of country liquor, despite the total prohibition in force in the state.

Additional district judge Tribhuvan Nath also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of the three convicted and ordered an additional six months in jail in case of default.

According to special public prosecutor Sanjay Kumar Singh, the trio were arrested on March 16, 2017 from Jamalpur police station area of the district with pouches each containing 200 ml of country liquor.

The total quantities of liquor seized from the three were about 26 litres.

The sale and consumption of liquor was completely banned in Bihar by the Nitish Kumar government in April, 2016.
