Bengaluru: With the arrest of six persons, the Bengaluru City Police rescued an 11-year-old child within 24 hours of his abduction.
The child was kidnapped from Shivaji Nagar here on Thursday and forced to have a spiked drink after which he lost consciousness. The kidnappers later took him to Tumkuru in a car and a ransom note was sent to his family the next day.
The kidnappers had demanded Rs two crore for the safe release of the child.
The family had already filed a missing person’s complaint and police had formed teams to trace the culprits. With use of technology, the police managed to zero in identity and location of two of the kidnappers.
The duo told the police about the Tumakuru hideout, where the child had been confined. Police raided the spot and managed to arrest the three culprits as well as rescue the child.
During the questioning, the gang revealed information about the mastermind and his location in Bengaluru. When the police raided his house he allegedly assaulted the policemen and tried to escape. The police had to open fire at him in self defence, Police Commissioner Kamal Pant said.
The main conspirator is injured, but safe,” he added.
All the six kidnappers are from Bengaluru, and one among them has a criminal record, the police said.
