160 cartons of liquor seized in UP

Muzaffarnagar: The police has seized 160 cartons of illegal liquor, being smuggled from Haryana in a truck, on Khatima-Panipat Highway in the neighbouring Shamli district.

Assistant Regional Transport Officer Mohammed Qayyum said checking was carried out of the truck which was carrying watermelons last evening.

During the inspection, 160 cartons of liquor worth lakhs of rupees were seized. These were being smuggled from Haryana to UP.

The alleged smugglers managed to escape from the spot.

A case against unidentified persons has been registered in this connection, the police said.
