Mangaluru: Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian inauguarted the two-day fruits’ mela at Pilikula Nisargadhama here on Saturday, June 8.
Jointly organised by the Horticulture Department and Dakshina Kannada District agricultural associations, the event was officially inaugurated by the MLA Kotian by cutting a jackfruit.
Addressing the gathering he said that awareness must be created in today’s generation regarding the nutritional values of the fruits, especially jackfruit. “The Mela he said will not only give farmers a chance to exhibit and sell their produce but visitors also would get a chance to learn about the fruits.
Apart from various fruits, medicinal plants, khadi clothes, hand-woven clothes, agricultural products, vegetable seeds etc are being showcased at the Mela.
Stalls selling different fruit delicacies namely ‘garige’, ‘uppad pachchir’, ‘pappad’ and others attracted quite a few visitors.
