2 minor earthquakes felt in parts of Vijayapura district

Vijayapura: Two minor earthquake tremors were felt at late night on Sunday in the district. The intensity was recorded at 2.6 on the Richter scale and no significant damage was reported. This is the second such occurrence within a span of five days.
The seismic activity, centered in Managuli and Yaranala villages of Basavana Bagewadi taluk, affected various areas, including Hattarakihal, Nandihal, and Vijayapura city. Tremors were also fet in localities like Jalnagar, Ibrahimpur, Ganeshnagar, Kirtinagar, Basavanagar, and Vajra Hanuman Nagar in Vijayapur city.
According to the district administration, the first earthquake struck at 12:22:52 am, past midnight on Sunday, at a depth of 5 km. The second followed just 53 minutes later, at 1:15:14 AM, at a depth of 7 km. Both quakes recorded a magnitude of 2.6 on richter scale.
Residents, abruptly awakened by the shaking, felt the tremors in their homes, with utensils rattling. Many, startled from their sleep, promptly alerted family members and evacuated outside as a precaution.
This recent seismic activity follows a mild earthquake in the district just last Thursday, intensifying concerns among the local population.
Vijayapura district officials said that theKarnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has officially confirmed the earthquakes, emphasizing that these light tremors are harmless, urging residents not to panic.
The district administration assured that they are closely monitoring the situation.
