Mangaluru: The tentative schedule of Kambala for 2022-23 season of Kambala meets in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Kasargod districts was announced on Sunday. The schedule was released after the meeting of the District Kambala Committee was held at Moodabidri.

According to the schedule, the Kambala season will begin with Shirva Kambala on November 5, 2022. A total of 24 Kambala contests will be held till April 8, 2023. This time, Panapila has been added as a new Kambala venue.

November 12 has been assigned for the Kambala in Pilikula in Mangaluru. However, the district administration is yet to take a decision in this regard. Kambala in Pilikula has been stalled for a few years and the district administration is said to be keen to organize it this time.

The covid-19 pandemic had played the spoilsport for organizing the traditional rural sports event. Last year, the Kambala contest had to be temporarily suspended after just 5 contests out of 18, due to the weekend curfew and other covid protocols. It was later resumed in February after the weekend curfew was lifted.
