2022 deadline for Smart City Project: Mayor Moily

Mangaluru: Revealing details of Smart City project which is currently in progress, Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Bhaskar Moily said that it would be completed by the year 2022, on Wednesday, June 27th.

Addressing the media Moily said, “The second phase of Smart City project will start soon under Smart City Ltd Co formed in April 2017. For all works under the project, we have awarded the contract to Wadia Techno Engineering Ltd, Louis Berger Consulting Pvt Ltd and Center for Development of Advanced Computing under Project Management Constance (PMC) category. The commissioner of the city corporation will be the MD/CEO of Smart City Ltd Co. The secretary of the district administration will be the chairman of the company. The mayor and other three corporators have been already selected as the directors of the project. The MD of KUIDFC, director of local body administration, deputy commissioner, and a representative of urban development ministry have already been included in the directorial board of Smart City Ltd Co. Now, two representatives from the state government, two from corporation and two independent members have to be included in the directorial board.”

“We have 66 sub-projects in the Smart City project. Top priority is being given to the Pumpwell bus terminal. We will plan and take up other projects which are more necessary for the city. From last one year, the process of conceptualization, planning and a preparation of the DPR was on. We already have got approval for 42 projects and invited tenders for 8 projects. The central and state governments have released Rs 215 crore for Smart City project and the company has already used Rs 3.87 crore for basic plans. This is a five-year plan and the company will complete all 66 projects by 2022,” he informed.

“Besides this, under the ‘Amruth Yojane’, the central government has sanctioned Rs 185.52 crore to the corporation for various developmental works. We will be using Rs 2 crore for five parks in city, Rs 4 crore for rainwater culverts and Rs 179.52 crore for drainage system in the entire city,” he added,
