Mumbai: In a chilling incident, a man pushed a 21-year-old woman in front of a moving train at Mumbai’s Khar railway station on Friday for allegedly turning down his marriage proposal.
The act has been captured on CCTV cameras. The victim, a resident of Khar survived the incident but suffered head injuries and received 12 stitches.
Sumedh Jadhav, a resident of Wadala, fled from the spot after committing the crime but was nabbed by the police within 12 hours.
According to the police, the victim and the accused were acquainted with each other for over two years and had developed a good friendship. However, after coming to know of Sumedh’s alcoholic behavior, the victim started distancing from him. She had even lodged a complaint against Sumedh for harassment but he kept following her.
On Friday evening the victim had boarded a train from Andheri station and the accused reportedly began chasing her. She got down at Khar station where she met her mother and told her about the accused following her.
Sumedh confronted both the women at the station and insisted that the women come with him so they can get married.
When the woman refused, Sumedh first threatened to kill himself but then started dragging the woman towards the track and pushed towards the gap between the moving train and platform. The woman sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital. The accused fled from the spot, the police said.
