Agartala: Three men were killed by villagers in the Khovai district of Tripura on Saturday for allegedly trafficking cows.
The deceased were identified as Zayed Hussain (30), Bilal Mih (28) and Saiful Islam (18).
A senior police officer informed that at about 4.30 am, the villagers of Namanjopar saw a mini truck moving towards Agartala carrying cows. Fearing that the cows were stolen from nearby villages, the villagers chased the truck and stopped it at Uttar Maharanipur village.
“The villagers then pulled out the three people in the truck and started beating them. One of them escaped but he was caught near the tribal area of Mungyakami. All three died as a result of the beatings,” the officer stated.
Police had arrived at the scene immediately and took the three to a local hospital where they were pronounced brought dead.
