3 convicted to 5 years RI for murder attempt

Mangaluru: Three persons were sentenced to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) by the Principal District and Sessions Court in connection with an attempt to murder case on Friday November 23rd. The convicts are Arjun (27), a resident of Bajal, Abhi alias Abhishek of Kudupu and Karthik of Shakti Nagar.
As per the chargesheet filed in the Court by the then Ravi Naik, the then inspector of Kankanady Town Police Station, Arjun had taken a loan of Rs 25 lakh from one Satish Gambir of Bellur, Benjanapadavu. But on Sathish’s demand for to return his money back, Arjun was enraged and hatched a plan to murder the lender. Accordingly, he asked Abhishek and Karthik to murder Sathish on July 14, 2017.
The crime
In accordance to Arjun’s plan, Abhishek and Karthik took Sathish to an abandoned place on the premise that Arjun was waiting to repay his money there. On reaching the spot, the two accused attempted ti murder Sathish by stabbing him. However, the victim was successful in fleeing the spot alive and registered a complaint with Kankanady City Police naming the accused.
The sentencing
During the hearing of the case, Principal District and Sessions Court Judge Kadluru Sathyanarayana Acharya upheld the arguments of Special Public Prosecutor Pushparaja Adyanthaya and sentenced the accused to 5 years of RI and also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 under IPC Sec 307 (Attempt to murder), 1 year RI under IPC Sec 504 (Intentional insult with the intent to provoke breach of peace) and 2 years RI under IPC Sec 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
