30 BJP workers arrested in Mandya for bandh

Mandya: The BJP call for a State-wide bandh to demand farm loan waiver received a poor response in Mandya and Ramanagaram districts. KSRTS and private vehicles operated as usual and educational institutions, government offices and business establishments remained open. Nearly 30 BJP workers were arrested when they tried to block traffic on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway in Mandya. They were later released.

In Ramanagaram district, party workers staged protests at the taluk headquarters. They visited commercial areas and asked shopkeepers to support the bandh by closing down operations. However, all their efforts received very weak responses. This may be attributed to the absence of a strong foothold for the BJP in the districts. The JD(S) won all seven Assembly seats in Mandya district, and three out of four seats in Ramanagaram district.
