38-year-old man held for stealing handbag from temple in Moodbidri

Moodbidri: The local police arrested one person for stealing a handbag belonging to a woman from inside a temple. The police have recovered four mobile phones worth about Rs 37,000 from him.

The arrested is identified as Umesh Poojary (38), resident of Daregudde.

As per the sources, the woman from Kotebagilu had visited Lord Hanumantha temple a few days back. She had kept her handbag aside when offering prayers to the deity, Umesh who saw the bag took the bag away by placing it inside his own bag.

A team led by police inspector Dinesh Kumar, took up probe after the woman filed a complaint. During the investigation the checked CCTV footage inside the temple and identified the accused and arrested him from near Aramane Bagilu.

Umesh was later produced to the court whereupon he was remanded to judicial custody for two weeks
