39th Swachhata Abhiyan Shramadan; Bus shelter inaugurated at Bondel

Mangaluru: A new bus shelter was inaugurated near the Public Works Department office at Bondel on Sunday. It was built as as part of 39th Swachhata Abhiyan Shramadan of Ramakrishna Mission.
The shelter was built on the request of locals, since earlier; passengers waiting for their bus were compelled to stand beneath a peepal tree here. The new bus shelter has a roof, seats, and tiled floor.
On the 39th Swachhata Abhiyan Shramadan of Ramakrishna Mission, the volunteers cleaned the surroundings of the bus shelter and removed the sand accumulated on the airport road which was obstructing vehiclar movement. The garbage was removed from the drains and a spot that was littered with garbage and heaps of sand was also cleared.
Heaps of sand lying on the footpath and overgrown weed and grass was also removed from near Ashwattha Katte in Bondel. All illegal banners were also removed.
Follow up on cleaned locations
Following last Sunday’s Shramdan of cleaning and removal of garbage from Bikarnakatte, the The volunteers have been monitoring the area daily to check if the shop vendors are littering. The volunteers followed up by visiting several fast food shops and urging people not to litter and help in maintaining cleanliness in the city.
The volunteers have successfully stopped hotel staff from throwing out garbage and dirt and have forced them to clean the spot littered by them, a release from Ramakrishna Mutt said.
The volunteers also visit households a nd inform people about the need for segregation of waste. They also inform them on how to compost the wet waste generated in their house by using pot-compost and make use of the manure in their gardens.
