40 per cent attendance on 1st day of school says Edu Min Suresh

Bengaluru: Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar informed that on the first day of school reopening 32.56 per cent of second-year pre-university college (PUC) students and 41 per cent of class 10 students attended classes.

Speaking at a news conference here on the school reopenings, he said that the children had come to school with great enthusiasm.

“Of the 9,27,472 students enrolled in the state’s 16,850 high schools, 3,80,264 (40 per cent) attended today and of the 2,41,965 second year PUC students enrolled in 5,492 PUC colleges, 78,794 (32.56 per cent) attended their colleges,” Suresh further informed.

“Some schools were even distributing masks for their students and also performed aarathi of the attending students and distributed sweets. More girls students were in attendance. The first day of class was successful,” he added.

Education Department officials Umashankar, Anbukumar and R Snehal were present during the conference.
