41 kg ganja seized; 2 from Kasaragod arrested

Mangaluru: Two drug peddlers were arrested by the City police at Marakada in the city on Wednesday July 17th. Around 40kg of marijuana was seized along with a car, weighing machine and cellphones from the accused.

The accused are identified as Iqbal, 34, and Fazal, residents of Kasaragod in Kerala. The crackdown on drugs was conducted by Kavoor police based on a credible tip-off that two drug peddlers trying to sell ganja in huge quantity within their jurisdiction.

Modus operandi

The police informed that the accused procured cannabis from Andhra Pradesh and later transported it to Bengaluru. The duo used to avoid any suspicion by travelling in the general compartment of trains running between Andhra Pradesh and Bengaluru. On reaching Bengaluru, the duo hired cars and transport ganja to Kasaragod. Later, they sold the weed at various locations including Mangaluru, which was the major consumer market for the narcotic.

The value of the seized amount of ganja is worth Rs 12 lakh. Kavoor police have registered a case under NDPS Act in this connection.
