460 beneficiaries to be allotted flats at Herga under PMAY scheme

Udupi: The district administration has identified 460 beneficiaries who will be allotted flats at Herga under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, informed MLA Raghupati Bhat.

Speaking to reporters here Bhat said the Udupi Municipal Council will construct the apartments in the 8.22 acres of land earmarked for the purpose at Herga. The flats will be ready before April 2021. Karnataka Slum Development Board will provide financial assistance for the project he added.

The foundation stone laying ceremony for the Herga project will be held on January 8.

The approximate coat of each flat is Rs 7,42,994 of which the Union government and Udupi Municipal Council will contribute Rs 1.5 lakhs and Rs. 74,299 respectively to each beneficiary. The state government will contribute Rs 2 lakhs to each SC and ST beneficiary and Rs 1.2 lakhs to general category beneficiaries. An initial contribution of Rs 60,000 has to be made by a beneficiary from SC and ST category and Rs. 90,000 if they belong to the general category. Housing loans can be availed for the balance amount and can be repaid in 30 years, he informed.

The beneficiaries will also have to sign an agreement to not sell their apartments for at least 15 years, he added.

MLA Bhat added that a plan for a project with 150 apartments at Sannakkibettu and another with 70 at Subrahmanya Nagara could be approved before January 8.
