5 dead in fire at Covid-19 vaccine maker Serum Institute’s Manjari plant

Pune: Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol on Thursday informed about the fire that broke out at coronavirus vaccine maker Serum Institute of India’s under-construction plant in Pune, and said that five bodies were found.
As the smoke filled the building, authorities rushed and evacauted nine people trapped inside in the Serum Institute of India’s Manjari premises, police said.
Serum Institute’s CEO Adar Poonawalla tweeted, “We have learnt that there has unfortunately been some loss of life at the incident.” Poonawalla further said, “We are deeply saddened.”
He also said that there would be no loss in vaccine manufacturing because the company has other available facilities.
