Calories are basically heat energy, wherein two units of energy equal one calorie. They are necessary to maintain the body’s vital functions or basic metabolic rate

Increase intake of calories for a prolonged period of time can lead to weight gain and other diseases. But there are some of the food items that are high in calorie but good for health

Here are 5 healthy high calorie food items

Cheese

Yes, you heard it right! Cheese is made by separating the milk solids from the whey. The curds go through a ripening process and then packaged to prevent exposure to air. Cheese is a high calorie food as a cup of grated cheese can contain between 200 to 500 calories, but it is also a good source of protein as it can contain over 40 percent proteins by weight.

Chia

Chia seeds are high in calories, but it also has high fiber, omega-3, protein and zinc content. They are also best anti-oxidant.

Raisins

Raisins are also a calorie-dense food as a single cup of raisins contains 434 calories. But they are also a healthy alternate to sugar and can used to satisfy cravings

Olive Oil

One tablespoon of olive oil contains 120 calories and 14 grams of fat. But it is  rich in omega-6, omega-3, vitamin E, and vitamin K content, which are considered good for brain functioning and manage a healthy weight.

Quinoa

One cup of cooked quinoa contains 222 calories, but it is also a rich source of protein, fiber, iron, copper, thiamin and vitamin B6.
