Bengaluru: A 60-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of her newborn grandchild in Bengaluru’s Myadarahalli.

The accused identified as Parameshwari was allegedly upset over the birth of a girl child and wanted to get rid of her, the police said.

The incident occurred on Friday night when the newborn’s mother Tamilselvi went to the washroom. Using this as an opportunity to get rid of her granddaughter, Parameshwari threw her from the rooftop of the house. Later she tried to mislead Tamilselvi by claiming that a stranger entered the house and took the child away.

The police was summoned and the body of the 7-day-old baby girl was found in a vacant plot adjacent to the house with several head injuries.

Parameshwari has confessed to the murder, informed the police.
