7 fishermen rescued from sinking boat off Karwar coast

Karwar: The crew of a fishing boat that was in trouble at sea off the coast of Baithkol (Baitkal Cove) of Karwar was rescued on Wednesday.
The Malpe-based fishing boat ‘Royal Blue’, carrying seven fishermen from Mangaluru, had been at sea on a fishing expedition. The boast encountered trouble in the Arabian Sea, about 40 nautical miles from Baitakhol port, as water began entering the boat and it began sinking.
The fishermen sent a distress signal to the Coastal Security Police and the Coast Guard for assistance. In a joint operation, coastal security police and the Indian Coast Guard unit from Goa initiated a rescue operation.
With the help of six vessels, the sinking fishing boat was pulled to Karwar port. The fishermen are reported to be safe.
