Mangaluru: 8 students arrested for murderous assault

Mangaluru: Urwa police arrested 8 students of a reputed college in Balmatta, Mangaluru for the murderous assault on a 21-year-old youth.
The eight accused identified as Mohammed Afreesh (21) of Ullal, Sunaif (21) of Pandeshwar, Shaik Moideen (20) of Kasaragod, Ibrahim Raji (20) of Kotekar, Mohammed Sinan Abdulla (21) of Addur Gurupura, Mohammed Asham (21) of Kotekar, Mohammed Afam Aslam (20) of Bunder Mangaluru and Mohammed Sayad Afreed (21) of Gurupura.
All the accused are undergraduate students – 5 among them are pursuing BBA&L while 3 others are BCom students, police said.
A youth named Shabab K (21) had lodged a complaint at the Urwa police station that 12 persons, including the 8 arrested accused, ganged up and barged into his rented apartment at Chilimbi on May 28 at around 8 PM. They threatened to kill him and assaulted him with weapons.
According to the complaint, the assault was an act of revenge for a minor scuffle during the cultural event held at the college on May 28 at 4.30 pm.
Police have booked the accused under sections 143, 144, 147, 447, 504, 506, 307 R/W 149 of IPC.
