8-year-old swimmer wins medals on national level

Puttur: Monya Kausumi, an eight-year-old swimmer from Puttur Aquatic Club, has won silver and a bronze medal in her very first ever national meet. She won a bronze in 4×50 medley relay and silver in the 4x 50 metres freestyle relay at the 35th sub junior and junior National Aquatic Championship at Pune. She also raised Karnataka team from 4the place to 2nd by her personal best timing of 33.6 seconds in the freestyle relay.
Monya impressed everyone when she won silver in 50 freestyle at the Sub junior and Junior State Aquatic Championship held at Mysuru, earlier this month and the medal qualified her for the national competition.
Monya, daughter of Kamal and Rahani couple, is a 4th standard student of St Philomena English Medium School, Puttur. She is the youngest swimmer from Puttur Aquatic club to win a national medal with just two years of swimming. She is been coached by Partha Varanashi, Niroop, Rohit and Sathya at Dr Shivarama Karantha Balawana Swimming Pool, Puttur.
