Haveri: The 86th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana (All India Kannada Literary Conference) was inaugurated at Haveri on January 6 with the unfurling of the Indian national flag, Kannada flag (Naada Dhwaja), and the flag of the Kannada Sahitya Parishad.

The ceremony was held at 7 am in front of the ‘Kanaka-Sharif-Sarvajna’ main stage at the 130-acre venue constructed off the Hubballi National Highway here.

The national flag was hoisted by Labor Department and Haveri district in-charge minister Arebailu Shivaram Hebbar, the flag of the Kannada Sahitya Parishad by its president Dr. Mahesh Joshi, and the ‘Naada Dhwaja’ was hoisted by Zilla Sahitya Parishad president Lingayya B. Hiremath.

Minister of Energy and Kannada and Culture Department Sunil Kumar in his speech wished well for the 3-day event. “Good arrangements have been made by the government and the district administration to ensure that there is no deficiency in the conference,” he said and hoped that the conference under the leadership of Sahitya Parishad will be a great platform for discussing the issues pertaining to Kannada Naadu (land) and Nudi (language).

“The government is trying to implement the slogan ‘Kannadave Satya Kannadave Nitya’ in an intuitive way. Young talent is being given an opportunity through this literature conference,” he opined.

Teams from police, NCC, Sevadal, Scout and Guides gave the guard of honour to the chief guest.
