9 arrested for mobbing Karachi Bakery in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The Indiranagar police have arrested nine people in connection with the Karachi bakery incident where a group of men had barged into the shop on Friday, February 22 evening and forced the staff to cover the name Karachi.

The accused are identified as Praveen, Babaji, Sreeyappa, Srihari, Shivakumar, Naveen, Lakshman, Gunashekar and Sanjay, all aged between 30 and 35 years and residents of Ulsoor.

It is gathered that when the police arrived to arrest the accused, they – accused – claimed that they were social workers. However, the police told them that they cannot get involved in such incidents and take the law into their hands.

Police said that the accused had not to resort to violence or damage property and everything in the bakery. The police also examined the CCTV footage and arrested nine. The police are now questioning them to know if others were involved.

It may be recalled that high Drama had prevailed outside an outlet of the Hyderabad-based Karachi Bakery in Bengaluru after a group of unidentified people on Friday, February 22 protested and forced the staff of the bakery to cover half of its signboard and demanded to change its name. However, the manager agreed to put up a Tricolour inside and covered the name Karachi with a banner. 

Following the incident the Karachi Bakery’s official Facebook page on Saturday, February 23 clarified that founder of Karachi Bajert Khanchand Ramnani had migrated to India during Partition and the brand was established in 1953. It is an Indian company based out of Hyderabad, Telangana. The post further said that the essence of Karachi Bakery is absolutely Indian and will remain so.
