Ullal: The Veera Rani Abbakka Utsav being jointly organized by the Dakshina Kannada district administration, zilla panchayat and the Kannada culture department will be inaugurated on the shores of Mogaveerapattana in Ullal on March 2nd. This year’s Abbakka awards will be presented during the Utsav concluding programme at 5 pm in the evening on March 3rd.

The preparations for Abbakka Utsav – 2019 have been completed and the final touch ups were inspected by the Utsav’s nodal officers, ZP CEO Dr Selvamani R and other officials.

On Mar 2n arounf 3:30 pm in the afternoon, Abbakka Utsav cultural procession and Queen Abbakka’s soldier Chenna Marakala procession will be flagged off by minister U T Khader at Bharat high school grounds. The minister will later preside over the Abbakka Utsav by starting it off on the same day at 5 pm in the evening on the sea shore. As part of the Utsav, various cultural programmes will be conducted from 4:30 pm in the evening.

Beach festival along with Abbakka Utsav

This time, along with the celebration of Abbakka Utsav on the shores of Ullal, special importance has been given for the conduction of a beach festival simultaneously. On Mar 2nd, various competitions shall take place from the morning including state level men and women half-marathon, football tournament, boat competition, swimming competition and traditional fishing competition.

During the two day Abbakka Utsav, various cultural programmes, seminars and multi-lingual poetry seminars will be held.

Abbakka’s history displayed through colours

As a precursor for the Utsav, since the last two days, 29 artists from the district displayed the history of Abbakka through multiple colours and brush work to the public at Ullal’s aided Moogaveera higher primary school.

On the occasion of Abbakka Utsav, seminars and multi-lingual poetry seminars will be held from 8:30 am in the morning on Mar 3rd. In the evening, during the concluding programming at 5 pm, 2018-19 year’s Abbakka awards will be presented.

Minister U T Khader will be presiding over the programme in which minister D K Shivkumar will hand over the awards to the awardees. This year’s 2018-19 Abbakka award will be given to Dr Sandhya S Pai who is the managing editor of ‘Taranga’ (weekly publication) and Urmila Ramesh who is an business woman.
