Abusing cops near Padil: Prime accused, 4 others arrested

Mangaluru: Two persons, who allegedly verbally abused on-duty cops, and four others who sheltered them have been arrested, police said.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar told media persons here on May 31, that the prime accused Naushad (28) and Hyderali (27) of Inoli have been arrested. Mohammed Syed Afreed (23), Basheer (40, Zubair (32), and Jaleel (25) who sheltered them from police were also arrested from Mysuru and Bengaluru, he added.
The Compol said that the accused had drawn inspiration from viral videos of SDPI activists in Kerala’s Alappuzha berating cops.
Further, the accused told police that local SDPI leaders and program organizers had instigated them to verbally abuse the police and had assured to support and protect them, he added.
Case Details:
On May 27, miscreants had tried to run over a police constable, on-duty at a check post in Koddekkal-Kannur during the SDPI program organized at Dr. Shyam Prasad Shetty ground.
Police Constables Puttarama, Jagadish Meta Gudde, and Sangana Gowda were on duty at the check post when a few bike-borne youths and two more in a car hurled abuses at them. The miscreants drove haphazardly, even trying to ram the car into constable Sangana Gowda.
Kankanady police had booked the youth under sections 143, 353, 504, and 149 of IPC.
Three arrested for obstructing police from discharging duty
Three persons are facing charges of preventing the team from Kankanady police from discharging their duty.
On May 29, when the team of police had been to Madiwala in Bengaluru on receiving information that one of the accused was hiding there.
When the police asked the occupants of the house to open the door where Naushad was allegedly hiding, the three occupants — Mohammed Yaseen (25), Afrieed Sab (19), and Mohammed Thufain (19) pushed the police and stopped them from arresting the accused.
Based on the complaint by the Kankanady police, a case has been registered against the three for obstruction at the Madiwala police station.
