ACB ensnares two corrupt govt employees

Mangaluru: The Anti-Corruption Board (ACB) arrested two corrupt government employees of the Minority Development Corporation for demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a businessman to provide him with subsidy. The arrested are corporation’s district manager Shridhar Bhandary and clerk Rahil.

The businessman had submitted an application to the corporation with the aim start a dairy business. Rs 1 lakh had been granted for him. But, Shridhar Bhandary demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to give the cheque to the businessman. When the businessman said that he could not afford that amount, the errant employee finally demanded a bribe of Rs 7,000, complained the businessman to the ACB.

On Monday, even as the official was receiving the bribe, the ACB conducted a raid and caught the official red-handed. Rs 7,000 in cash was found in the drawer of Shridhar Bhandary. Rahil had provided assistance in procuring the money and a case is booked against him as well. The arrested have been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days, inform ACB officials.
