Mangaluru: The city police have finally nabbed a 50-year-old man accused of assault on Thursday Sep 5th. The accused has been evading arrest since the past three decades. The arrested is identified as Shekabba (50), son of Ahmed Kunhi, residing at Belaringe Kinya.
Reportedly, the accused and another person identified as Mohammed had assaulted Fakeer of Kukkudakatte on Nov 22, 1989 and a case regarding this had been registered at Ullal police station. Although Mohammed was arrested, Shekbba managed to remain on the run even though an arrest warrant had been issued against him.
The capture of the accused was possible due to the new initiative, ‘My Beat My Pride’ launched by the present police commissioner Dr| Harsha. The new system was introduced to strengthen the beat policing system within the commissionerate which involves all senior officials including the commissioner, going out on patrol along with the designated beat constable to gather first-hand information from the public. Hence, due to this new system, the public informed the whereabouts of the accused which led to his arrest after 30 years.
The commissioner took to twitter to share the success story of his ‘#Nanna Gastu Nanna Hemme’ concept and congratulated the informants concerned on behalf of his commissionerate. He also conveyed his gratitude to the members of the public forming part of the patrol squads.
