Accused in Badagabettu minor’s rape case found guilty, sentencing on Nov 25

Udupi: The district special court convicted two persons in the 2016 rape case of a 15-year-old girl here at Badagabettu, Udupi. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on November 25.

The convicted – Mukesh Mali (20) and Padam Singh (28), both natives of Rajasthan were employed as labourers in a tile factory and were acquainted with the victim’s father.

On July 8, 2016 the accused had forcibly abducted the minor from her residence and taken her to a rented house at Badagabettu and raped her. Later they threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to others. A case about the incident had been filed in women’s police station here on July 10.

A medical check-up of the victim confirmed the sexual assault. Mali and Singh were arrested by the police under the POSCO ACT thereafter.

Hearing the arguments presented by POCSO special public prosecutor Vijay Vasu Poojary, on behalf of the prosecution, Judge C M Joshi, observed that the rape-charges against the accused have been proved.
