Vitla: Police said they have arrested the accused who murdered Devinagar-resident Shakuntala (35) in broad daylight at Neralakatte junction of Netlamudnooru village on Monday, June 27.
Shridhar Mugera (39), the main accused, came on an autorickshaw and stopped Shakuntala near the Neralakatte junction when she was returning from the canteen she ran at Puttur. Conversation soon turned into a quarrel and Shridhar attacked her with a knife and ended up killing her.
There are many theories for the root cause of the murder. It is said that until a year ago, Shakuntala used to commute to work on the auto-rickshaw of Shridhar. She had stopped using his services ever since she bought a two-wheeler. Some suspect this might have been the reason for the killing.
Some disagreed with this theory. They opined that the police complaint Shakuntala lodged against Shridhar regarding a verbal argument might be the cause.
However, there seems to be no clear answer to what really led to the murder, as the accused remains mum. Police, meanwhile, are investigating the case from all angles to unearth the truth.
