Acid attack on woman over financial dispute

Mangaluru: Kadaba police have taken a man into custody on charges of an acid attack on his sister-in-law over a financial dispute at Kodimbala, Kadaba taluk here.

The woman identified as Swapna, 35, susatined burn injuries on her face and has been admitted to Wenlock Hospital for treatment. Her condition is said to be stable. The accused is identified as Jayananda, 55, resident of Kodimbala.

The incident took place on Thursday evening. As per reports Swapna’s husband had availed a loan from a cooperative bank. However after his death in October 2018, the bank started sending notices to Jayananda for repayment of the loan.

Irked by this Jayananda confronted Swapna and allegedly splashed the acid on her. While Swapna sustained burn injuries to her face, her three-year-old daughter too sustained minor injuries on legs and hands.

A case has been registered at Kadaba police station.
