Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister Govind M Karjol has warned that action will be taken against officials who have still not implemented the social welfare department’s schemes.

He was reviewing the progress of the Belgaum Division’s Department of Social Welfare and the Department’s many corporations through video conference and said that all the offices of the Department should function as corporate offices in the implementation of the department’s ambitious schemes. District-level officers of the department must undertake field tours and check the progress for quick implementation of schemes.

He added that every village should be provided with a crematorium. A proposal should be sent regarding this to the Deputy Commissioner immediately. There have been complaints about the crematoriums being too far from the villages. It should be made sure that there are such facilities in proximity to villages.

He further said that progress in the Colony Development Program is stagnant. Grants should be withdrawn from the institution which has not adequately implemented the program and should be handed over to the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Engineering Division or the Public Works Department.

Clean drinking water should be provided to every colony. Rs 500 crore grant is available in the PD accounts of the Deputy Commissioner for the required renovations of hostels but it is unused. More than 2600 community houses have been completed. A few are in the end stage of completion. The social welfare department schemes should be utilised. Officials must take action on successful utilisation of the schemes by beneficiaries, the DyCM said.

Chief Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare G Kumar Nayak, SPC and TSP adviser E Venkataiah, Commissioner of the Social Welfare Department Ravikumar Surpur, Director Nagesh Lidkar, Managing Director Natraj, Dr B R Ambedkar Development Corporation’s General Manager T Kumar and other officials of the Belgaum Division were present in the video conference.
