Action against pubs failing to close on time: Commissioner

Mangaluru: The city police commissioner Sandeep Patel has directed all pubs functioning in the city to close within the closure time decided by the government in the permits and to compulsorily install CCTV cameras, both within and outside the pub premises.
The commissioner informed that the pub owners have been directed to see to it that no drug abuse takes place at their premises and to take necessary measures to provide protection to women.
A few pubs in the city are functioning late into the night which is causing problem to the public. Besides, there are several complaints from the public demanding action against drink and drive. In this backdrop, pub owners were called for a meeting and proper directions were given, he explained and added that proper legal action will be taken against those violating the law.
In order to book cases against drink and drive, 12 more breath analyzers have been procured and inspections are being conducted daily. Especially on weekends, in order to conduct strict inspection, the barricades are laid in a zig-zag pattern, he informed.
