Activists protest symbolically against SC directive

Mysuru: In an effort to rebel against the Supreme Court directive to share the water of the Cauvery with Tamil Nadu, members of the Kannada Chaluvaligarara Sangha staged a symbolic protest by carrying stone slabs on their heads. They protested near the Mahatma Gandhi statue nearby the Mysuru Law Courts complex. They regarded the SC’s order as ‘unfair’ to the people of Karnataka and a ‘grave injustice’ to the farmers of Karnataka.
They also condemned the possibility of formation of the Cauvery Water Management Board and feared the scarcity of water in close to 90 cities, 20 taluks, 2 lakh villages and around two-thirds of Bengaluru, if the board materialises. They felt that only the reservoirs like Krishna Raja Sagar, Harangi, Hemavathi and Kabini belonged to Karnataka, not the water it contains.
