Mangaluru: It is likely that Adani enterprises hall receive the contract for running six airports in the country. Mangaluru International Airport is also included in the contract which is mostly going to start in July.
Before the recent Lok Sabha elections, Adani enterprises had bid to run six Indian airports. But due to the conduction of the Lok Sabh elections, there was a lot of delay in procedures and paperwork by the government. However, according to the aviation ministry, the contract will receive approval by the cabinet in July and the company is likely to take over the business from July itself.
A proposal for managing six AAI (Airports Authority of India) run airports on a public-private partnership basis was approved by the government during November last year. The government had received 32 technical bids from ten companies and Adani won the bid for running six airports for the next 50 years.
According to the ministry, AAI will receive Rs 1,300 crore per year with the privatization of Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, and Mangaluru airports. Other airports in India will be developed by the ministry from the amount received through privatization.
Employees of the new privatized airports can either join the Adani Enterprises or can continue as AAI staffs, clarified the ministry.
